News from the Week

In addition to a Valentines concert with Breathe Owl Breathe, the Cherry Capital Winter Wonderfest and the new Empire Museum History Nights, we had a cool photo of Fishtown "Through the Viewfinder" and a report that the 2009 Tour de Leelanau bike race has been canceled. Bummer.

  1. Dick Cookman over at Enerdyne in Suttons Bay confirms that my hyperbole was actually correct!

The cloud tops that we see on Neptune are somewhat cool - -353° F. Since the core temperature is about 12500°F, some place between the two the average temperature is 72° F. Below the clouds the outer third of the planet is a mixture of heated gases comprised of hydrogen, helium, water and methane.

Below that, Neptune is composed of a mixture of molten rock, water, liquid ammonia and methane which can be considered to be the surface of the liquid portion of Neptune.

Yesterday the surface of this sea could have been tropical or even warmer! This was certainly not the case for our part of Leelanau County.
