News from the Week

The week's big news story was a report that Sugar Loaf may open for skiing in 2006. There's a report in this week's Enterprise that one lift may open. There was also a report on this year's Leelanau & Northern Michigan wine grape harvest (looking very good!) and a beautifully written piece by Northport student Rose Petoskey called "What's in a name" that is HIGHLY recommended reading. Finally, I strongly urge you to read this article about the Farmland Preservation measure and watch the video.

  1. The National Weather Service reported that a record daily maximum rainfall was recorded at Traverse City for an October 3rd. 2.01 inches of rain fell at the Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, breaking the old record of 1.82 inches set in 1983. The amazing thing was that almost all of it fell from 10 PM to midnight!
