West Bay Yacht Club would cater to large yachts

Filed under: Leelanau — Andrew McFarlane @ 12:04 pm

The Leelanau Enterprise reports that Elmwood Township native Ron Walters and four other investors plan to build a luxury yacht club on 13 acres of waterfront property in Greilickville. The marina would cater to large boats and be at the site where the Malabar (which would remain) is currently docked. According to the article:

West Bay Yacht Club would fill an unserved niche in Grand Traverse Bay, Walters said, as owners of large boats now rarely put Traverse City on their itinerary He said East and West Grand Traverse bays offer just one slip for yachts. And West Bay Yacht Club would offer no competition to the Elmwood Township Marina, which can only accommodate boats up to 40 feet in length.

Owners of large boats often skip the 22-mile trip down West Grand Traverse Bay to Traverse City altogether, instead heading directly to Bay Harbor from Northport.
