Traverse City signs mayors' emissions pact
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Traverse City's city commissioners voted unanimously to back the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. Participating cities pledge to cut back controllable emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012. The city joins other Michigan cities including Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Marquette and the mayors of over 300 US cities representing over 50 million Americans in the pledge and plant to conduct an emissions inventory, consider alternative bids for projects that incorporate sustainable building, and to look at purchases of hybrid vehicles and other emission reducing measures.
