Pets Prohibited from Some NPS Beaches

Piping PloverThe Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that no pets will be permitted on beaches at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore where piping plovers have established territories or nests. Piping plovers are listed by federal and state government as an endangered species and dogs disturb birds trying to establish nests and threaten successful chick rearing.
