Wreck of the Jennie and Annie washes up on Sleeping Bear Point
About a week ago now I came across this photo by Mark Lindsay. I asked former Park Ranger Bill Herd, and he told me what has since come out in the media. Sleeping Bear Dunes historians believe the schooner fragment, estimated to be about 40-feet long and peppered with twisted metals spikes, is part of the shipÕs bilge keelsons, which the Oxford Handbook of Maritime Archeology says were long timbers running most of the shipÕs length, strengthening the keel.   read more »

Northport Harbor Days – June 29 – July 1

The annual Northport Harbor Days begins on Friday night (Jun 29) with "Shaboom" playing for the Music In The Park Concert from 7-9 PM.

Saturday features the "Run (and Walk) for Funds" American Cancer Society Race, Northport Bay Yacht Club Boat Race Boat Race, plenty of kids games, a rubber ducky race and horseshoe tourney. At 4 PM, the Beer, Wine & BBQ opens with music that includes "Betsy Baye & The Groove Engine" at the Pavillion.

Sunday features the "Anything Goes Boat Race", a dinghy poker run, more food, more music and a tug of war.
