Frost is Bad News for Sweet Cherries & Apples, Tarts also Impacted

The Record-Eagle reports that local growers are estimating that 60-70% of the area's sweet cherry and apple crops were damaged when temperatures dipped below 30 degrees on May 6. Tart cherry harvest estimates have also been reduced to 100 million pounds. Northwest Michigan can produce as much as 180 million pounds in a good year.
