Could Elmwood Township Land Become Regional Park?

Filed under: Business, Leelanau, development, preservation, traverse city — Andrew McFarlane @ 8:55 am

The Leelanau Enterprise and the Traverse City Record-Eagle both have stories about evolving discussions for community purchase and establishment of a regional park at the site of several proposed but never completed developments in Elmwood Township. Owner Dr. John Milliken has proposed property could become home for a performing arts center that would host the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. Other potential uses include a home for the Traverse City zoo, a convention center and botanical gardens. The land is diverse enough to allow for intense uses and still offer hiking and cross country trails with stunning views of the Grand Traverse Bay.

  1. This idea is sounding very interesting to me. A center anchored by the symphony and zoo could be seriously cool. It would be neat if they look up the folks who are trying to establish a Great lakes Aquarioum too.

    Anybody else have thoughts?

  2. I was sad to see the zoo leave Traverse City. It may have been small, but, was a great thing to have. My son loved it. Sadly, with animal rights groups gaining power, I think you will see more zoos being dismantled.
