  1. Fall Color Report (Oct 2): We're stalled at 40-50% color. There are some stretches with more advanced color - yellows, oranges, reds - and others that are still mostly green. All in all, it looks like we'll see peak color beginning Columbus Day Weekend and probably continuing through the following weekend.

  2. From Absolute Michigan is an appropriate article for this windy season titled Winds of Change?
A new report titled Michigan's Offshore Wind Potential from the Land Policy Institute at Michigan State University says that Michigan has the potential to become a big player in offshore wind energy. At the same time, the Federal Government has also issued a report that investment in coal is now more expensive than wind.

  3. Fall Color Report (Oct 6): I think we might be at 50% color. There are some stretches with more advanced color - yellows, oranges, reds - and others that are still very much green. We should see peak color beginning Columbus Day Weekend (that's this weekend) but barring some nasty weather, it should continue to be very nice through at least next weekend.

Be sure to check out the photos from the relighted South Manitou Island light!

  4. Fall Color Report (Oct 22): We are at peak to passing peak around the county. We should still enjoy great color through next weekend though!

Record Low The temperature at Cherry Capitol Airport in Traverse City at 6:53 AM registered 23 degrees - a new record low eclipsing the previous low 26 degrees set in 1955.
