Conservancy Receives Grant for "Lighthouse West" [12.24.04]
The Leelanau Conservancy has received a $632,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to help purchase a 42-acre property with 640 feet of shoreline known as Lighthouse West. The property provides critical stopover habitat for migrating birds and the Conservancy needs to raise $250,000 to complete project. More at the Conservancy web site.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that a survey by Manpower reports that businesses in the Grand Traverse area are not planning much in the way of hiring for early 2005. Record-Eagle story.
Hickory Hills Ski Area [12.28.04]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Hickory Hills Ski Area is now open and that the City of Traverse City (which owns the area) is exploring ways to more effectively utilize the area, in winter and year round.. Record-Eagle story.
