Conservancy Working Toward Cedar Lake Preservation [December 8, 2005]
The Leelanau Conservancy has signed an option to purchase the 145-acre historic DeYoung farm in Elmwood Township. The TART trail runs through this property which nearly a mile of undeveloped shoreline on Cedar Lake and acres of rolling hills ideal for hiking, cross-country skiing, bird watching and more. A portion of the land is currently being farmed by a neighbor and plans for agricultural use and education are also in the works. The Conservancy put down $50,000 to get the ball rolling, but must raise an additional $130,000 within 91 days, and ultimately must raise $1.8 million by June 1st to secure this land. Empire Holiday Potluck Dinner [December 12, 2005]
All are welcome at 6 PM on Saturday (Dec 17) at the Empire Township Hall for the annual holiday potluck dinner along with Santa and singing.
