Girls Basketball District Schedule [November 10, 2005]
In Class D at Lake Leelanau St Mary, Leland meets Northport next Wednesday (Nov 16) at 6 PM followed by St Marys vs. Traverse City Christian at 8 PM. The final is Friday (Nov 18) at 7 PM. In Class C action at Suttons Bay, Suttons Bay faces Forest Area on Monday (Nov 14). On Wednesday (Nov 16), Glen Lake plays TC St Francis at 6 PM and the winner of Monday's game goes against Kingsley at 7:45 PM. The final is Friday at 7 PM.
A Different Kind of Leelanau Hunting Tale [November 11, 2005]
Detroit News outdoor writer Lynn Henning takes a look at the atmosphere (and memories) of a hunting trip to Glen Arbor that's pretty well done. Read Memories are best trophy. Also, the Enterprise has a brief story on hunting that says the DNR estimates put the number of deer in Leelanau County at 5,900 (400 to 1,800 below the goal of biologists). Changes for 2006 Traverse City Film Festival Announced [November 14, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that organizers say the Traverse City Film Festival will be one day longer and will be held August 1 - August 6, 2006. In addition to the State Theater, the Old Town Playhouse, the City Opera House and floating screen at the Open Space, organizers plan to add one more venue. The lineup of movies is expected to be announced in February and you can read the TC Record-Eagle story and visit the Traverse City Film Festival web site.

Storm Knocks Out Power, Topples Trees [November 15, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has a report on Sunday's wind storm that featured winds in excess of 60 mph (clocked at 63 at the northern tip of Leelanau) and cut power to most of Leelanau County. There's more wind on the way on today... Read WHOOSH! Storm tips trees and knocks out power.
Coffee Company Owners Launch Fundraising Effort [November 16, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has a report on an effort by Chris and Jody Treter (owners of Higher Grounds Trading Company). The Treters and other Leelanau County businesses and individuals launched a fundraising drive to raise $8,000 to build a gravity-fed water system for a village in Chiapas, Mexico. This Sunday (Nov 20) at 5:30 PM the group will host a pot luck at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Suttons Bay. Read Coffee for water? You can help.
