Maple City Hunting Story [Oct 20]
The Detroit News has a story involving Leelanau County conservation officer Michael Borkovich and three Maple City men that is pretty darned funny (to tell you more would spoil it!) Read It seems that what happens up north, only happens up north.

Large Donation for Glen Arbor Fire Engine [Oct 21]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that an anonymous donor has given the non-profit Glen Arbor Fire and Rescue Association some $365,904 to purchase a new fire engine. Read $365,904 donated for fire truck.

NCAC Presents Private Lives [Oct 24]
The Northport Community Arts Center (located at Northport Public School) presents Private Lives by Noel Coward, Directed by Karen Cross. Written in 1930, this comedy is story of a divorced couple who unexpectedly meet while honeymooning with their new spouses. Performances will be held Nov 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 8 PM and Nov 6 at 3 PM. Divers Seek to Create Preserve in West Grand Traverse Bay [Oct 25]
Interlochen Public Radio has an excellent audio feature that a group of scuba divers in the Grand Traverse area are putting together a plan to sink a former car ferry, the Arthur K. Atkinson, in West Grand Traverse Bay of Lee Point in Leelanau County. While the Manitou Passage Underwater Preserve is close by, it requires a boat and is only diveable about 1/4 of the time while the West Bay site would offer nearly 90% availability. 2005 Great Lakes International Wine Auction [Oct 26]
The annual auction to benefit the Inland Seas Education Association will be held next Friday (Nov 4) at 7 PM Traverse City Golf and Country Club. It features wine pairings by the Wine Shop at Hansen's heavy hors d'oeuvres, live and silent auctions (Host Ron Jolly, WTCM) and jazz from Big Noise.
