Superintendent Recommends Closing Northport High School [10.14.04]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the Northport Board of Education will consider a recommendation from superintendent Rick Cross to close the high school at the end of the current school year. Cross is recommending that Northport enter into an agreement to send its high school students to Leland. Read the story and discuss in the Leelanau Forum.
Former DNR Chief on Payroll
From the head-scratcher files, this week's Leelanau Enterprise reports that K. L. Cool, the former Michigan Department of Natural Resources director who presided over the controversial swap of public and private lands on South Fox Island last year, is now on the payroll of developer David V. Traverse City Open Space Vote [10.18.04]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that on Nov 2, TC voters will be asked to approve a 20-year, 0.2727-mill bond issue to buy the former Smith-Barney property (along West Grand Traverse Bay), the Oleson Field (next to Hickory Hills Ski Area) and the barns at the Grand Traverse Commons. Two Halloween Events for Families [10.20.04]
Families are invited to enjoy two Halloween events this Saturday (Oct 23). From 1-4 PM, the Glen Arbor Art Association invites parents and kids to a Pumpkin Carving Open House. Visit the GAAA.
