Effort to Protect Lake Leelanau Watershed [09.30.04]
The Leelanau Conservancy has launched a "Lake Leelanau Watershed Initiative", an all-out effort to protect the long-term health of the Lake. The effort is a partnership between the Conservancy, the Lake Association, the Leelanau Conservation District and a committee of business owners such as Fountain Point resort and citizens concerned about the lakes future. Leelanau Student Count Drops [10.01.04]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the county-wide student count dropped 4.4% this year (2,520) compared to last year's count of 2,637. Read the story.

Bayside Travellers Empire Dance [10.04.04]
This Saturday (Oct 9) at the Empire Town Hall, the Bayside Travellers Country Dance Society will hold a Jamboree with Chris Williams as facilitator (4:30-6:30 PM) followed by a dance at 7 PM. For more information, visit the Bayside Travellers web site.

Beach Bums Baseball
The Traverse City Record-Eagle had a story last week reporting that the 2nd time was the charm for the Wuerfel's 4,500-seat baseball stadium, this time at Chum's Village. The Traverse City Beach Bums will field a team in the Frontier League in 2006. Read the story.

Empire Heritage Day 2004 [10.06.04]
This Saturday (Oct 9) from 1-4 PM visit the Empire Area Museum Center for demonstrations including quilting, wood carving, black smithing, yarn spinning, cider making and more including a chance to win the 2004 Heritage Quilt handcrafted by the Empire Fire House Quilters. If you've never been to the Empire museum, you owe it to yourself to check out one of the best local museums anywhere!
