Peshawbestown Pow Wow [Aug 11, 2005] The Grand Traverse Band holds their annual Pow Wow next Saturday (Aug 20) in Peshawbestown at the Turtle (on Stallman Rd north of Suttons Bay). The event features Native American dancing, food and celebrations of their heritage. Unemployment Rates Improve in June [Aug 12, 2005] The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that area unemployment rates improved significantly in June as the summer tourism season hit full stride. Leelanau had the second best rate (4%), well below the statewide jobless rate of 6.9%. Read Tourism brings jobs; rate still above average in the TCRE. Leelanau Vintner's Print Contest The Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association (LPVA) is seeking works of original art for its Second Annual Commemorative Print, part of a bi-annual print series, to reflect the wines, vineyards and beauty of the Peninsula. The print will be known as "The Boskydel" in honor of winemaker Bernie Rink who started it all 40 years ago and will be unveiled on November 10, 2005 at a special dinner honoring Bernie.
