Sleeping Bear Dunegrass & Blues Festival [08.05.04]
The Sleeping Bear Dunegrass & Blues Festival will be held in Empire this Friday & Saturday, Aug (6 & 7). There's camping Friday night and a lineup that includes local favorites like Cabin Fever and guests including Greensky Bluegrass, Grasshoppah and the Jah Kings. Conservancy Business Partner of the Year [08.06.04]
From the "shameless plug" department, Leelanau Communications, Inc. was named the 2004 Business Partner of the Year by the Leelanau Conservancy. They're a great organization that has accomplished wonderful things in Leelanau County and we're happy to be able to assist them!

Northport Red, White & the Blues Wine & Food Festival [08.09.04]
The Leelanau Peninsula Chamber of Commerce sponsors its annual food and wine festival this Saturday (Aug 14) from noon to 6 PM at Haserot Park (next to the marina in Northport). The event features live blues, great food, area wines and a winery gift store featuring goods from all the participating wineries.

Glen Lake Library Book Sale & Silent Auction [08.10.04]
The Glen Lake Community Library holds their annual book sale & silent auction of vintage books August 11th - 13th at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. It opens with a Preview Party on the 11th from 7-9 PM and continues Thursday & Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Power Outages: Our Own Darn Fault [08.11.04]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Monday's daylong power outage was the result of a pole carrying a primary electric distribution line breaking. A Consumers Power representative was quoted as saying "It is one of the problems they face on a peninsula...Because the lines run up one way, we don't have a lot of alternative ways to re-route and restore it during repairs".
