Plein Air Painting Day [August 4, 2005]
The Leelanau Historical Museum will host a Plein Air Painting Day on Sunday, August 7, from 3:00 to 5:30 at sites within walking distance of the Museum in Leland. Participating artists include Mary Fuscalso, Gene Rantz, Melanie Parke, Fred Petroskey, Edde Joppich, Richard Kooyman, and Deborah Ebbers. Painting sessions will be followed by a fundraising dinner and Wet Art Auction of the day's work at the Old Art Building. For more information call the Museum at 256-7475. Museum web site.

Grand Traverse Band to Build Cultural Center [August 5, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians announced that it has received a $1.5 million block grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to build a waterfront cultural center in Peshawbestown that will also have educational and visitor functions. Steppin' In It Plays GAAA Benefit Concert [August 8, 2005]
The Glen Arbor Art Association holds its annual benefit concert this Sunday (Aug 14) from 7-9 PM. The concert features Steppin' In it Benefit, Michigan's hottest band playing everything from blues to bluegrass, calypso to cajun, woeful waltzes to western swing. Northport Wine & Food Festival [August 9, 2005]
The annual "Red, White & the Blues" festival takes place this Saturday (Aug 13) from Noon - 6 PM in Northport's Haserot Park and features 14 vintners from the Leelanau and Old Mission, top regional cuisine and hot blues bands including Mark Arshak and International Blues Challenge People's Choice winner Mojo & the Boogieman.
