Suttons Bay Art Festival [July 28, 2005]
The Art Festival is held every year the first weekend of August (Aug 6 & 7) and features 90-plus juried artists in all media showing and selling their work at the Marina in Suttons Bay. The event also features a fine food tent and hours are Saturday 10-6 & Sunday 10-5 with a Pancake Breakfast Sunday at 10 am. Please visit the Suttons Bay Art Festival web site for more info.
Sleeping Bear Dunegrass & Blues Festival [July 29, 2005]
The annual festival will be held Friday & Saturday (Aug 5 & 6) in the village of Empire and features a world-class lineup including Hot Tuna (Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady), blues standout Chris Smither, Vince Welnick, Claudia Schmidt and many more. County Board, Tribal Council Meet [July 29, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the Tribal Council of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners met in an official joint session for the first time ever last week. The informal discussion explored issues facing the Leelanau County community and additional ways the tribal and county governments can cooperate. Read Tribe-county meeting 'historic'.

TC Film Festival a Big Success [Aug 2, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that while the Traverse City Film Festival may not rival Sundance or Cannes, Michael Moore says the film festival was a bigger hit than expected. It featured 31 films, mostly sold out, and panel discussions with Hollywood insiders. About 20,000 tickets were sold for the indoor showings and total festival attendance was estimated at 50,000.

Sugar Loaf Update [Aug 3, 2005]
Sugar Loaf owner Kate Wickstrom has posted an update on her efforts to reopen Sugar Loaf. She reports that the airstrip has been inspected and is now open, the liquor license application is almost done and she laid out the renovation plan. She also posted that the purchase price quoted in the Enterprise was incorrect to which the Enterprise has responded via email (and we have posted the message in the Forum).
