Farmland Preservation [07.12.02] The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the Leelanau Conservancy, the State of Michigan and the Stanek family have reached an agreement to preserve over 300 acres of cherry orchard in Elmwood Township, making it the largest farmland preservation project in Leelanau County. (also see the Record-Eagle) Mount Holiday Ski Campaign [07.15.02] The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that the community group formed to purchase and re-open Mt. Holiday as a community ski area has kicked off their fund-raising campaign. Record-Eagle story, group's web site and online donations to the campaign. Art-y Gras Fundraiser [07.16.02] The Leelanau Community Cultural Center hosts their annual Art-y Gras show & sale this Saturday (July 20) at 7 PM. Live music, hors d'oeuvres and the artwork of more than 70 Leelanau artists highlight the opening and the show continues through the following week. Artists donate 40% of their sales to the Old Art Building for progam and operating funds and you can visit their web site or call 256-2131 for more info. Lighthouse Sesquicentennial [07.17.02] This Saturday (July 20) the Grand Traverse Lighthouse will hold their Sesquicentennial Celebration from 10 AM - 5 PM.
