Beach Bards Summer Storytelling [Jun 23, 2005]
The Beach Bards offer a forum for by-heart performance by poets, storytellers and musicians every Friday night (starting this Friday!) through the summer at the Leelanau School Fire Circle in Glen Arbor. The evening starts with a children's hour at 9 PM followed by more adult fare. This is a great evening and Leelanau county tradition! More about the Beach Bards.
Glen Lake / Suttons Bay Shared Supt. Meetings [Jun 24, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that 2 back-to-back forums to accept input on a proposed dual superintendent for Suttons Bay and Glen Lake will be held by both districts Tuesday night (Jun 28). Suttons Bay will hold a public budget hearing at 6 PM Tuesday followed by an opportunity for the public to provide input on a proposal to share superintendent Tom Harwood with Glen Lake. Harwood will be on hand for Glen Lake's special meeting at 7:30 PM. Read Input sought on joint chief plan in the Enterprise.
Cedar Polka Fest [Jun 27, 2005]
The annual Cedar Polka Fest starts this Thursday (Jun 30) and continues through Sunday (Jul 3). This annual event held at the ball diamonds in Cedar offers a chance to dance to great polka bands, enjoy food and libations under the tent as well as a parade and a special Polka Mass on Sunday.
Dunes Review Reading [Jun 28, 2005]
This Wednesday night (Jun 29) at 7 PM at the Glen Arbor Art Association Art Center, there will be an award ceremony for the Anne-Marie Oomen Prize for High School Poetry and reading from the Dunes Review (a collection of poetry, essays, memoirs and short fiction). More about the Dunes Review.
Northport Harbor Days [Jun 29, 2005]
This annual event starts Friday with a Gallery Walk 6-9 PM and Music In The Park from 7-9 PM. On Saturday, the American Cancer Society Run for Funds starts the day at 9 AM with food vendors, events for children, volleyball tournament, and an 8 PM dance with Chico & The Other Band at the NCAC. Beer & wine will be under the tent from 2-8 PM (Sat) and 2-9 PM (Sun). Sunday features the Anything Goes Boat Race and Bloom playing 6-9 PM. Northport Chamber site.
