Graduate Numbers Down at County Schools [Jun 2, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that 231 seniors will be graduating from Leelanau County schools this year, a 10% decline from the 2004 total of 257. The article also has times for all ceremonies. Read Fewer graduating from county schools in the Enterprise.
June 11, 2005 - Leland Wine and Food Festival [Jun 3, 2005]
The annual Wine and Food Festival will be held from Noon to 6 PM next Saturday (Jun 11) in Leland's Fishtown. The event features local wines and foods from the area. More at the Leland Business Association web site.
District Baseball, Softball & Soccer Results [Jun 6, 2005]
The Record-Eagle reports that Suttons Bay won its fourth consecutive Division III district soccer title by beating Kingsford 4-2 on Saturday. The Norse, 17-6-1, will play Fremont at 4 PM on Wednesday in the regional opener at Big Rapids. (read story) In baseball action, Leland beat Frankfort 7-3 and St. Marys 5-4 to capture the crown. Leland (21-16) will face Holton (20-15) this Saturday in Mesick. In Girls Softball, St. Marys fell to Frankfort, who then went on to beat Northport 15-0. (read story)
TC Film Festival Gets OK [Jun 7, 2005]
The Detroit Free Press reports that Traverse City commissioners voted last night to grant a permit to the Traverse City Film Festival Committee to hold a film festival July 28-31 at the Open Space. The festival was the idea of filmmaker Michael Moore and will show independent, classic, documentary and foreign films (rated G and PG). Read Moore floats movie idea in the Freep.
Traverse Bay Tech Connect Seeks Wireless Proposals [Jun 8, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that the Traverse Bay Economic Development Corp. is seeking proposals from telecommunications companies to establish a wireless broadband network throughout Benzie, Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Kalkaska counties. Area businesses and residents would be able to utilize wireless Internet and other broadband services. Wireless network proposals sought in the Record-Eagle & visit the Traverse Bay Tech Coast web site.
