Second Annual Suttons Bay Film Festival [Apr 28, 2005]
The Film Festival will be held next Saturday (May 7) at the Suttons Bay HS Auditorium. This festival showcases the best of K-12 grade student videos gleaned from a national call for entry. The doors open at 6 PM with a hands-on animation station presented by the Suttons Bay Animation Club. A silent auction of wonderful themed baskets runs all evening. The movies start at 7 PM and are followed by a delicious sit-down dessert afterglow following all the movies and the silent auction finale! Tickets are available for $5 at the door and you can call Ken Scott at 271-6070 or email.

2005 Exposures Dedicated to David Viskochil [Apr 30, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the 2005 issue of Exposures, an annual magazine showcasing the writing and artwork of Leelanau County 8th-12th grade students, is dedicated to David Viskochil, who died in February. David was a driving force behind the creation and continuing success of the magazine. Read 'A wonderful tribute' in the Enterprise. (and come to the opening tonight or exhibit tomorrow!)

Cherries & Grapes OK So Far [May 3, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has a brief bit on their local news page about the impact of our recent weather on cherry & grape crops. Agricultural & regional grape and wine agent Duke Elsner from the MSU Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station says recent cool weather probably won't affect area crops but makes it impossible to say when the cherry trees will bloom.

Leelanau Cooking with Mario Batali [May 4, 2005]
The Detroit Free Press has a feature on the marquee item in the Leelanau Conservancy's 2005 Silent auction: a private, hands-on cooking lesson and cozy dinner on the beautiful Leelanau Peninsula with celebrity chef and restaurateur Mario Batali. Leelanau Children's Center Auction [May 5, 2005]
A Silent & Live auction to benefit the Leelanau Children's Center will be held this Friday (May 6) at 7 PM at the Leland Lodge. The auction features hundreds of items including toys & kid's items, dining, jewelry, clothing, artwork, and travel & entertainment (headlined by a week's stay at a thatched roof house in an English village!) and all proceeds benefit LCC programs.
