Conservancy Silent Auction Online [Apr 14, 2005]
The Leelanau Conservancy's Silent Auction is now online and there are now 80 items, experiences and destinations to bid on. Items include jewelry, trips, lodging, art and more like world-famous chef Mario Batali's hands-on cooking class, wine tasting and dinner for 12. The Auction will conclude at our Annual Picnic on August 4, 2005, at the historic Oleson Farm & proceeds benefit land protection. Board Supports Farmland Preservation Request [Apr 15, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the County Board voted unanimously to recommend approval of a request from the county Farmland Preservation Board to nominate six farms representing 1,058 total acres for the purchase of development rights through the State Farmland Preservation Fund. Read 6 farms targeted for state program in the Enterprise.
Earth Day with Shielding Tree Nature Center [Apr 18, 2005]
You are invited to celebrate Earth Day this Friday & Saturday (Apr 22 & 23) from 10 AM - 4 PM by rolling up your sleeves for some hands-on environmental stewardship. Pitch in to help with grounds restoration, garden preparation, and trails improvements. A fruit tree pruning workshop will be held Friday in cooperation with the NPS & MSU. More at shieldingtree.org.

Help Leland 3rd Graders get to OM World Finals [Apr 20, 2005]
The Leland Public Schools LPS 3rd grade team received 2nd place in Division 1, Crazy Columns (building a 15 GRAM structure that supported over 500 POUNDS!), at the State Odyssey of the Mind (OM) competition last Saturday. They will now advance to the 2005 OM World Finals & have approximately two weeks to raise $12,000 in order to go. The team will be at Van's Garage in Leland this Saturday (Apr 23) from 9 AM - 1 PM for a car wash and bake sale. Next Saturday (Apr 30) from 9 AM - 3 PM they will hold a garage sale and bake sale at Leland School.
