Lucky Leprechaun's Ball [Mar 10, 2005]
On St. Patrick's Day (Thursday, Mar 17) the annual Lucky Leprechaun's Ball (an annual benefit for the Father Fred Foundation) will be held at the Park Place Hotel Dome in Traverse City starting at 6 PM. The evening features Song of the Lakes with special guests including the Syrinx Flute Ensemble, Norm Wheeler, Concord Academy Antrim Irish Dancers and Dance Arts Academy. Leland to Play in State Finals, Suttons Bay Falls [Mar 11, 2005]
In the Class D Volleyball Semifinals, Leland (66-7) defeated Adrian Lenawee Christian 25-21, 25-20, 25-15 (Read CLASS D VOLLEYBALL: Leland's versatile Glass shatters Lenawee in the Detroit Free Press). The Lady Comets will play Battle Creek St. Philip for the State Title today (Mar 12) at noon at University Arena, Kalamazoo. In the Class C Girls Semifinals Thursday, Suttons Bay fell to Blissfield 25-9, 25-15, 25-17 (Read Blissfield block in the Record-Eagle). Congratulations on a solid season!
Jail Sewer System Cost Jumps 1/4 Million [Mar 11, 2005]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that construction of a redesigned sewer system to handle waste from the jail and the proposed governmental center will cost the county an additional $265,000. The commissioners (understandably irked by this) voted 6-1 to approve a change order. Read County Board irked by extra sewer costs in the Enterprise.
Leland Falls to Battle Creek in Volleyball Final [Mar 14, 2005]
Leland (66-8) was defeated by Battle Creek St. Philip for the Class D State Title on Saturday 25-20, 25-19, 25-14. The Comets were #2 for much of the year and Battle Creek was able to end a string of 3 straight runner-up finishes. More on the Volleball Finals the Detroit News and get the box score from MHSAA. Congratulations ladies on a tremendous season!
Folk Doll Workshop [Mar 15, 2005]
The Leelanau Historical Society invites you to a doll-making workshop this Saturday (Mar 19) from 1-4 PM at the Museum in Leland. Fee is $6-12 and materials, instructions, project help and refreshments provided. Call 256-7475 for information.
Art Meets Technology in Suttons Bay [Mar 16, 2005]
The Suttons Bay Friendship Community Center will host their Winter Willies Wingding ARTEC, this Saturday (Mar 19) from 10 AM - 4 PM. The event combines technology and art including video animation, computer help, eBay how-to and more. For info, call them at 271-4630. More about the Center.
