LPS Facilities Committee Reports [03.02.00]

Health Care Award [03.02.00]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Munson Medical Center has received the National Quality Health Care Award and is the smallest hospital to receive the award since its inception 7 years ago.

Great Lakes Community Arts Award [03.03.00]
The Leelanau Historical Society was one of five outstanding arts and cultural organizations named winners of the 2000 Great Lakes Community Arts Awards. Through their high quality exhibitions, programs, and events, the Society has inspired people to explore the past, understand the present, and envision the future.

"The Great Lakes Community Arts Award recognizes the exceptional accomplishments of Michigan arts and cultural organizations," said Deborah E. Mikula, Director of the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies. "We received over 55 nominations from all around the state and it was a difficult decision for the jury because all the nominees presented compelling examples of the wonderful work they are doing in their communities."

Glenn Wolff Goes Sci-Fi [03.03.00]
Local illustrator Glenn Wolff and author Robert Sullivan collaborated on Atlantis Rising: The True Story of a Submerged Land -- Yesterday and Today. Today an audio excerpt from the book is available through Seeing Ear Theater on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Long Boom [03.06.00]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has a report this morning looking back at nearly 10 years of economic good times in the area. In '91 our unemployment rate was 11.2%, down to 5.5% in '99. Our average per capita income has risen 60% since '88 and retail sales over the period are up over 60% as well.

Another Bond Issue [03.07.00]
Traverse City Record-Eagle has a story this morning about overcrowding at Suttons Bay School that is likely to lead to a bond request June 12th for addition of new classrooms and a second story on the elementary.

District Basketball Roundup [03.09.00]
Leelanau Sports reports that in Leelanau County basketball action last night Suttons Bay and Glen Lake were winners while Leland lost. Friday night Northport will meet T.C. Christian at 7:30 PM at Leland School and Suttons Bay will meet Glen Lake at TC Central at 7:00 PM.
