Bayview Phases Approved by Suttons Bay [Feb 24, 2005]
On Monday the Suttons Bay Village Council unanimously approved three more construction phases for the Bayview housing project (at the former Frigid Foods site). The 475 units approved would more than double the number of houses in Suttons Bay and about 50 of the lots would be sold to the village to work with a housing agency to develop affordable housing in the project. Leelanau Snowshoe Shuffle [Feb 25, 2005]
This Sunday (Feb 27) from 1-4 PM, meet at Fischer's Happy Hour for the Leelanau Memorial Health Center Volunteers and Northport Health and Fitness Association's annual Snowshoe Shuffle to support "Free Health Days" (healthcare for low income and uninsured residents in Leelanau County). Cost is $10/person or $20/family and chili, hot chocolate and hot cider are provided with. Free snowshoes are available courtesy of McClain Cycle and Fitness. For more info, call 386-0061.
Native Art Market [Feb 28, 2005]
The Leelanau Historical Museum hosts a Native Art Market the first Saturday of every month (next one Mar 5) from 10 AM - 4 PM. Local Native American artists working in both traditional and contemporary arts will demonstrate their craft and display and sell their original work at the Museum. Case Could Determine Beach Access [Mar 1, 2005]
The Associated Press reports that the Michigan Supreme Court hears oral arguments March 8 in a case that has caught the attention of property owners, businesses, environmentalists and outdoor enthusiasts. The outcome could affect not only beach walking, but the balance of power between riparian landowners and government regulators on shoreline environmental issues. Winter at the Vineyards [Mar 2, 2005]
