Sugar Loaf Closing Extended to March 1st [Feb 17, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle had a story yesterday that (mostly) summarized the state of things with Kate Wickstrom's attempt to purchase the resort. It did report that the closing had been extended to March 1st by SL 2002. The story also generated discussion in our Forum, including a post by Ms. Wickstrom. Maple City Affordable Housing Development
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that the Kasson Township Planning Commission is scheduled to hear details of a proposed 57-unit site condominium development in Maple City on Monday. Maplewood Commons would be designed to be affordable for to newly-married couples and families with a price range of $99,500 to $149,000 and Glen Lake Schools are hoping it will bring future students. WCMU to Produce Grand Traverse Band Documentary [Feb 21, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians has awarded WCMU Public Broadcasting $151,000 to produce a documentary about the tribe. The documentary may or may not air on television depending on whether or not WCMU receives editorial control over the project. Read WCMU award to fund tribal history in the Record-Eagle.

Northport Winter Carnival [Feb 22, 2005]
The 1st Annual Northport Winter Carnival will be held this Saturday (Feb 26) from noon to 4 PM at Braman Hill Park. The fun will include sledding & tubing, ice skating, snowman building contest, broomball & snow wolleyball games, a chili cook off contest and a snowmobile poker run! Student Grantmakers [Feb 23, 2005]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle has a report on a meeting over the weekend by students from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties to consider youth-oriented grant applications. The students are members of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Council (YAC). Read Students get focused on grants in the TCRE and visit the YAC web site.
