Couples Share Stories with Students [February 9, 2006]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that over 35 married couples who have been "sweethearts" for more than 50 years were recognized for their commitment to one another by Lake Leelanau St. Mary students last week. The story and the secrets the couples shared make a great read for Valentine's Day (or any time of the year). Read Students get heartfelt tips on marriage.

Peter Ostroushko in Suttons Bay! [February 13, 2006]
This Friday (Feb 17) at 7:30 PM at Suttons Bay School, Friends of Fine Arts will host a concert series featuring Peter Ostroushko of NPR's Prairie Home Companion Fame. Ostroushko is regarded as one of the world's finest mandolin and fiddle players and will be joined by guitarist Arkadiy Yushin and opening act Big Noise. Glen Arbor Chili Fest [February 14, 2006]
The annual chili cook-off and tasting will be held this Saturday (Feb 18) from noon - ? at Boonedocks in Glen Arbor. Entry form, more info and photos from last year can be found at the Glen Arbor Chamber web site.

Per-Household Recycling Charge for Leelanau? [February 15, 2006]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Leelanau County officials are touting a plan that would ask voters to approve an annual $29 per-household tax to fund recycling programs. Recycling services are currently funded by a 50-cent per cubic yard of waste at Glen's Landfill, but revenues from the fee are currently well short of the $275,000 yearly cost. A new law allows counties to impose a yearly fee of up to $50 per household to fund recycling if approved by voters. Read Recycling: $29 fee suggested.
