Suttons Bay Long Term Care Meeting [01.28.05]
On Tuesday, February 1st at 7 PM the Bahle family and Tendercare, Inc. will host a gathering at the Silvertree Deli to introduce the new Long Term Health Care project, view project drawings and meet the architect and management team. The proposed site for the facility is on property located just east of the entrance to the Suttons Bay Middle School and the project will bring over 100 full-time, non-seasonal jobs to the village.
Northport School Selects New Administrator [01.31.05]
The Leelanau Enterprise reports that Northport School has hired Tyrus Wessell, the current principal at East Grand Rapids Middle School to be their new superintendent and principal. Northport alum Sander Scott was also considered, and though both were deemed very qualified, Wessell was selected due to his extensive experience. February is National Cherry Month! [02.01.05]
Michigan is the largest producer of Montmorency tart cherries, growing 70-75% of the crop and Leelanau leads the way. The Cherry Marketing Institute has a lot of information available for educators and other folks regarding the history and present state of the cherry industry including growing research showing that antioxidants in tart cherries may relieve the pain of arthritis and gout and help fight cancer and heart disease. Munson Seeks Redevelopment Input for Leelanau Memorial Hospital [02.02.05]
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that Munson Healthcare, which closed the Leelanau Memorial Hospital in Northport (Dec 31, 2004), is going nationwide to seek redevelopment ideas for the health center campus, just west of the village's business district. The 20-acre site includes five buildings and additions encompassing 67,540 square feet of building area. Record-Eagle story on Northport Hospital.
