Royal Oak Township Recreation Center On February 21, 1998 Senator Peters and a host of volunteers wired and provided a new computer lab to the Recreation Center in Royal Oak Township. Because Royal Oak Township does not have a school in their community and their students attend Ferndale and Oak Park school districts, Senator Peters decided to assist this community by providing a virtual library to their Recreation Center. In order to acquire the necessary parts to hook up the schools, NetDay Michigan works with local businesses who wish to sponsor individual schools. At Royal Oak Township, companies such as Telcom Technicians, Sun Microsystems, Netscape, and AMP provided materials, volunteers, and technical expertise. NetDay also helps to actively recruit volunteers to come into the building and lay the wiring. The volunteers were community members, students, teachers, administrators, and others interested in helping the effort. ![]() More pictures in the NetDay '98 Photo Album Alcott Elementary School in Pontiac On October 25, 1997 Senator Peters and a host of volunteers came to Alcott to wire the school to the Internet.
