Northport is not a village you pass through to get to someplace else. It's at the end of the road on the Leelanau Peninsula so why bother? Probably because it's one of the most beautifully scenic and highly touted areas in the entire state featuring rolling hills and miles of Lake Michigan shoreline with pristine sugar-sand beaches.
The village of Northport offers an undiscovered New England charm and slow pace that will knock your socks off, delightful shops and boutiques, galleries and antiques as well as wonderful restaurants -- but alas -- no place to buy socks. Go wild, live it up and go without them. No one will care! The Old Mill Pond Inn is plunk smack dab right in the heart of all this charm -- if you can stand it. A circa 1895 cottage filled to overflowing with an eclectic collection of antiques and art -- but then aren't all B&B's worth their salt? There are gardens that are the setting for summer weddings, a screen porch that overlooks a pond and from this quaint and quiet residential neighborhood you can walk throughout the entire village. Oh, that slow pace! Ride bikes, walk a beach and catch a spectacular sunset, visit one of several wineries, hike a trail but don't try to send a fax. If you are in search of a place where some Norman Rockwell type couple are just dying to cater to your every whim then keep on searching. However, if you have a life and want to venture forth after being served a full breakfast, then you just might want to consider a stay here. 2 bedrooms offer private baths 2 bedrooms share a bath 1 loft room has a half bath |
