Kaleb Duncan, Grade 12

Are
You
Ever
Afraid
Rob Bell
Grade 7
Are you ever afraid
Scared that there behind you
Slowly following you
Through your house
Are you ever afraid
When turning on the lights
Only makes them faster
Invisible to the eye
Cold to the touch
You see him in the corner
And then you wake up
But you are still afraid
Silent Observer
Connor Carroll, Grade 7
genius flows from his hands
to the delicate white keys before him
he strikes those keys
oblivious to all around him
he cannot hear his musical masterpiece
cannot hear the flowing melody
he plays with burning anger
angry at the fate which robbed him of a normal life
angry at the cruel fate which made him love it
the flowing sound
the pulsing music
a thing alive
but he can only observe quietly
from a distance
and imagine
his emotions flow freely
for a moment
only a moment
through the piano
frustration
anger
magnified
condensed
concentrated
until the dam breaks
until they burst out
in an explosion of furious sound
soon,
too soon,
the music stops
the man sighs
he is once again
a silent observer
always from a distance
