Local Scholar Explores Ecotourism in Ethiopia

April 18, 2006/in Leelanau, travel

The Record-Eagle has an interesting feature by Traverse City resident Mark Livengood, former director of the Leelanau Historical Museum and current Fulbright Scholar at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. In this engaging read, Mark looks at the impact of community-based ecotourism, and, as the purpose of the Fulbright is to build mutual understanding between the US and other cultures, we figure it’s probably a good thing to pass along.
Read Dispatch from Ethiopia: Forests, mountains and streams in the Record-Eagle

The photo is a Creative Commons photo from Flickr by Steve Evans, who says that Ethiopia is “one of the greatest countries in the world, with wonderful people, terrific imagery, a tremendous culure, and proud heritage”.

You can click the photo for a larger view, see Steve’s other portraits from Ethiopia, or click for a ton more photos of Ethiopia. Think of it as a virtual trip…
