Professional Planner May Control PUDs in Elmwood

The Leelanau Enterprise reports that Elmwood planners are proposing changes to the township Zoning Ordinance that could, in theory, remove some of the decision-making authority to govern new developments from the Township Board. In a proposal that, according to Elmwood officials, would be the first of its kind in Michigan, the responsibility to approve or reject PUD requests would rest solely with a professional planner contracted by the township.
