Great Indoor Folk Festival ~ Feb 12, 2012
The 4th Annual Great Indoor Folk Festival takes place this Sunday, February 12 in Building 50 at the Grand Traverse Commons. The festival runs from noon to 5:30, and it is family-friendly and free, though you're encouraged to donate through "busker buckets."

Morning Light – dinner & benefit movie at The Bay Theatre

Traverse Area Community Sailing (TACS) presents the premier showing of Disney's Morning Light on Thursday, November 13 @ 6 p.m. at The Bay Theatre in Suttons Bay with dinner across the street at The Village Inn.

The film the story of a group of intrepid and determined young men and women, on the cusp of adulthood, as they embark on life's first great adventure. Racing a high-performance 52-foot sloop in the TRANSPAC, the most revered of open-ocean sailing competitions, the crew of "Morning Light" matches wits and skills in a dramatic 2300 mile showdown against top professionals.

Tickets for the movie and dinner are $20 for students, and $30 for adults. Only advance tickets are available and can be purchased at Bahle's in Suttons Bay. For more information search the TACS website at www.tacsailing.com.

Traverse Area Sailing Team, including students from four area high schools, Sutton's Bay, Glen Lake, Traverse City West and Traverse City Central will be introduced at the event. Also, information will be available on how to join the area's only high school sailing team as well as how to enroll in TACS summer sailing camps. A non-profit organization, TACS mission is to teach and provide sailing opportunities to the young and old in the Grand Traverse Region.

I received this from the sailing club and was lucky enough to attend the showing and enjoy the buffet that Josh set out. It's a really good movie and yum!!

Suttons Bay, MI — Traverse Area Community Sailing hosted a preview showing of the Disney movie ‘Morning Light’ at the Bay Theater last evening and the outpouring of support from the community was heartwarming. Shown to a nearly packed house the movie was a big hit and enjoyed by all.

Prior to the movie, Coach Ben Ferris introduced the new Traverse Area Sailing Team made up of 10 dedicated high school sailors who will be representing four area high schools this weekend in the Midwest Interscholastic District Championships. This group of young sailors were especially motivated by the movie, seeing their team spirit mirrored in the Morning Light crew.

Following the movie, a reception was held at the Village Inn with a delicious Mexican buffet and a silent auction featuring many sailing and a few non-sailing items generously donated for the event. Many stayed and enjoyed the chance to mingle with old friends, make some new acquaintances, and bid on some of the great auction items.

TACS President, Eric Lind, estimates that nearly four thousand dollars was raised that will help pay the final bills for the recently dedicated ‘Gordon and Jean Cornwell Sailing Center’ on Boardman Lake near downtown Traverse City. Everyone involved with TACS would like to thank American Tool & Die, Blue Water Sail & Canvas, Hagerty Insurance, Harken International, Quantum Sails, Sailsport Marine, Progress Printers, and WTCM/The BREEZE for their support in underwriting this event. We also thank all those that donated auction items, but most of all we want to thank everyone that came out on a cold and rainy evening and made this event such a huge success. Your support puts the Community in Traverse Area Community Sailing and we thank you.
