Leelanau Memorial Day Observances

Filed under: calendar,Leelanau, michigan, northport, photo, suttons bay — Andrew McFarlane @ 11:06 am

The Leelanau Enterprise has a feature on two Memorial Day ceremonies. On Monday at 9:30 AM at the County Government Center (near Suttons Bay) retired Brigadier Gen. Charles F. Briggs, (Ret.) will speak and there will also be a flag raising ceremony.

At 10:30 at the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport , there will be a speech from retired Ford executive Jerry Dennis, patriotic music from the Village Voices and Northport Community Band.

There's also a story about plans for a veteran's memorial at the new courthouse.

The photo is from Leonard Overmeyer of Overmyer Historicals. The author of Forest Haven Soldiers has some great Civil War history and photos.
